4th Annual Solomons Island Dragon Boat Festival

Cheer on the fleet of colorful 40-foot dragon boats as they race to the beat of Chinese drums on Saturday, August 17, 2019.

Watch the excitement mount as teams compete for Best Time, Best Tent Decorations, Best Team Costumes, and the highly coveted award, Most Funds Raised. Proceeds go directly to SMCR, Inc. for the development and support of programs and events for people with special needs in Southern Maryland.

This admission-free festival brings to Solomons an exciting day of dragon boat racing, a spectacular variety of entertainment, delicious food, a unique selection of crafts vendors, and kid-friendly activities where games, arts & crafts await.

What is Dragon Boat Racing?

Dragon Boating is a 2,500 year old sport that originated in China, but is now a truly international sport. A dragon boat team consists of 16 paddlers, a drummer and a steersperson, and is heavily reliant on timing and teamwork. There are no “stars” in dragon boating because success depends upon how well the team works together. Due to its strength to bring teams together, dragon boating has become exceptionally popular with corporate, community and civic organizations. Dragon Boating is one of the world’s fastest growing team water sports and it’s coming back to Solomons Island, Maryland in August 2018!
