Jim Hurley

Director

Jim relocated to Solomons, Maryland from Cape Cod, Massachusetts in 2017. He retired after a 40yr+ career in engineering, marketing, and business management, with large and small technology companies. Jim also has over 20 years acting, directing, producing, play and prose writing experience. Inspired by a grandson with a disability, in 2011, Jim collaborated with a number of groups on Cape Cod to found the Cape Cod Collaborative Arts Alliance, (CapeCodCAN!) to provide opportunities for people living with disabilities to actively participate in the arts. Until relocating, Jim led the management of CapeCodCAN!, produced its art, theater, and dance projects, wrote scripts for productions and led fundraising and grant writing efforts. He currently serves on the Executive Board of SMCR and is actively engaged in developing the Arts4All! Collaborative, providing arts inclusion and active participation opportunities for people living with disabilities in Southern Maryland.

I believe that the mission and activities of SMCR lead to increased opportunities, plus community recognition and engagement for people living with disabilities in Southern Maryland. I have seen wonderful results in personnel growth, increased self-esteem, talent development and community acceptance for participants in programs like SMCR’s. I want to be a part of that for the enhancement of our inclusive Southern Maryland community.”
